Internal-intentional actions
From a destination perspective, the 'ideal' situation involves actions that originate deliberately from within the destination, or internal-intentional actions. Factors that can trigger further growth include infrastructure upgrading, effective marketing campaigns directed by the local tourism organisation, and the decision bv local authorities to proceed with a growth pole-type strategy based on tourism. Conversely, internal and intentional actions, such as entry fees and infrastructure restrictions, can be used to restrict or reverse the growth of tourism. Not all of these factors, however, are desirable from the viewpoint of destination managers. An example of an unwanted internal-intentional action is the shooting or kidnapping of foreign tourists by local terrorists in Egypt or Yemen. Threats of Aboriginal protest during the Sydney Olympics also constituted a potential undesirable internal-intentional action from the perspective of the Australian government.
