Heredity and Environment
We are all born with certain physical characteristics. They combine, to some degree, the characteristics of our parents. Eye and hair color and facial resemblance may be most noticeable at first in an infant. Later, the baby begins to look like the parents in other ways. Curly hair, for instance, is an inherited tendency. So, for that matter, is baldness.
The characteristics passed on from generation to generation are said to be due to heredity. For example, we can say that heredity determines height. Whether a person grows up to be short, average height, or tall is determined by the physical structure of parents and grandparents.
